Moc Chau National Tourist Area is located in 02 districts: Moc Chau and Van Ho, Son La province, with a total land area of  206,150ha (According to Decision No.2050/QD-TTg). 12/11/2014, the Prime Minister approved the Moc Chau National Tourist Area Development Plan Son La province, till 2020, with a vision to 2030) with population of 174,175 people with 12 ethnic groups living together.
Located at a important gateway of Son La province and the Northwest region, on the traffic axis of National Highway 6 - the artery of the Northwest region, Moc Chau specific geographic position is: - Bordered by Hoa Binh province to the East and Southeast - Bordered by Yen Chau district, Son La province to the West and Northwest - Bordered by Thanh Hoa province and Laos to the South - Bordered by Phu Yen district, Son La province to the North

Moc Chau National Tourist Area has an average elevation of 800-1000m above sea level. The average height of limestone ranges from 1,100m - 1,300m, including Pha Luong peak located in the south of Moc Chau district - the highest mountain: 1,880m above sea level. The plateaus and basins (also known as the middle plain of mountains) make the unique topographic, Moc Chau plateau seperately has an elevation of 1,050m. The average air temperature in Moc Chau is about 18.50
